Big things happening at the Transportation Commission next week

The Alameda Transportation Commission January meeting (1/31 - 7:30pm) agenda and packet here will be covering two large issues with long-term implications:

1. The Alameda Transportation Master Plan Street Functional Classification plan (wonky sounding eh?). This will eventually go to the council for adoption into the General Plan for how we should be planning our roadways. Two key questions people will want to think about are: a) what is the planned classification of our street (the classification can have a big impact on traffic volume expectations and availability of traffic calming measures) and b) how does the network balance the individual needs of homeowners & neighborhoods with those of drivers/bikers/transit riders?

2. The Alameda Landing TDM program and goals which will set the bar for what level of trip reduction the project needs to make during it’s first five years before a 15% bump in financing becomes required and what will the initial TDM program look like (the TDM program will be the programs and services that the project pays for to cause the reduction in trips).

The TDM discussion will not only have impacts on the Alameda Landing issues, but will also set the stage for a city-wide TDM program that can integrate with large projects like Alameda Point and Northern Waterfront and small projects like Target and Warmington Homes.

Hope to see you there.

  1. John,

How long will the meeting run? Is it televised on APT?

  2. NOt televised (we’re working on that). Meeting will probably run about 2 hours, perhaps a bit longer. Always hard to tell.
