The sun always shines….
(With apologies to the Alameda Sun)
Last night, after four hours of dicsussions that at times appeared to be heading towards “hey, let’s just talk about this in a month or two” the city council, sitting as the ARRA, approved and exclusive negotiation agreement with SunCal.
Through this action, SunCal know embarks on an aggressive 24 month process to get things moving. The process identifies a public planning process beginning in the next three months.
The meeting last night was a lively discussion with the council attacking the proposed agreement from all sides. SunCal certainly dealt with this vigorous questioning well, acknowledging the importance of the council being comfortable with the agreement and doing their due diligence while presenting their POV at the same time.
After four hours of open public negotiation, and by a unanimous vote, the council voted Alameda Point is back on track as of last night.

Hey, thanks for the scoop! This is big news, though one certainly wouldn’t know it from reading another other local blog . . . er, I mean, award-winning daily newspaper, which is still headlining with a letter filled with dubious allegations made by a disgruntled former councilmember.

This was an amazing milestone, and it is surprising how anti-climatic the response is. During the meeting much was made about an email sent by the Navy holding the city’s feet to the fire and essentially giving them an ultimatum to move forward. I have no doubt that if it hadn’t been for that letter, the council would have delayed moving ahead in a last gasp hope among some of the members to find a way to give the project to Catellus. It would be very interesting to see the email from the Navy, not so much for the content, but to see what kine of emoticons they use in their emails.
