I believe that children are the future…..
The day after the cineplex project program, I suggested to a few folks that Alameda start to plan now for ways to entertain the kids who are going to hit the movies at the new theater and then pour out into the streets.
I’m not suggesting that kids on the street are a problem, but more that there is going to be a need for a hangout or two in the park street area, where kids can go before the become completely bored. It would strike me as a great opportunity for a local entrepeneur.
Growing up, we hit Godfathers Pizza across from the theater. Often we’d attempt to get away with buying a single all-you-can-eat buffet and then share it among four or five kids. That didn’t pan out very well. Somehow, the manager always seemed to be aware that some 14 year olds might try something stupid like that.
It’s been suggested that Park Street already has burger joints, etc. to cover these kids, but I’m not sure they really do. I can’t imagine Tomatina, family friendly as it is, is going to jump for joy at the idea of numerous groups of teens coming in and acting their age.
It’s an opportunity to create a great space for our youth, that is, if someone decides to look into it.
