Run like the wind

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while (ever since I heard about it). On September 23, 2007, the Race for the Cure was held in San Francisco. For those unfamiliar with it, the race is a fundraising event for breast cancer research, teams register to participate and then fundraise as a part of their involvement.

My desire to mention it is to give huge props to Alamedan Karin Fox, organizer of Team Fox Trot, a team of 38 Alamedans. The Fox Trot crew raised over $38,000, the second highest amount after the 165 member Dockers (as in Levis Jeans) team. That’s right 38 Alamedans raised almost as much money as the 165 members of the Dockers team.

Even more impressive is that they raised significantly more than the next groups on the list. They collected almost $10,000 more than Chevron, nearly double the amount raised by the SF Securities Traders Association team.

Having spoken to a few of the participants, this was no small feat. Karin Fox deserves great praise for the work and dedication that she brought to this effort. Individuals (and just 38 of them) can make a huge difference in our community and our world. We should be thankful that people are willing to step up to challenges and meet them head on.
