Which way today?
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is asking Bay Area residents about their opinions on transportation issues in order to better inform the direction of the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan. This on-line survey follows a statistically valid phone poll of over 1800 Bay Area residents.
While one should probably ask why they are conducting a statistically invalid internet survey. These surveys are good for collecting input from large groups of people, but are not valid in conveying a meaningful cross section of a population. The results are valid for the group of people that participate, but not necessarily transferable to a population at large.
That disclaimer made, it’s a good idea for Alamedans to add their collective voice to regional planning issues. The Eastern Counties and Eastern parts of Alameda County have reps who have become very adept at protecting their desire for increased sprawl and gobbling up infrastructure money that is needed to maintain it. These policies tend to reduce money available to areas like Alameda which are slightly ancillary to the regional streets and roads networks.
