Planning for a public forum.

Last night, in the continuing one-year long saga known has “trying to have a public discussion on an issue of significance in Alameda,” the Planning Board voted unanimously to approve staff recommended changes in the Measure A forum. The major change being the removal of the small groups discussion portion of the meeting in order to increase the amount of time the panels will have to talk and answer questions.

Despite the rhetorical recriminations covered here by Lauren Do, there will still be hours of public comment in the meeting, but there was concern that having one-hour panels of 5-6 people would not give anyone time to speak. Of course, having two two-hour panels almost back-to-back, might give some pause about who’s going to show up to listen to people talk at them for four hours.

Which brings us back to one of the initial suggestions for the discussion about Measure A. Namely, have 2 separate but shorter forums so that people can attend what they like and don’t have to block out a full day for it!

The forum is currently schedule is for February 23rd (a Saturday).
