The meaning of Alameda

At the end of my block (email Don Roberts if you want to know where I live, he likes to tell people), one of the street trees died and was cut down. I live on a tree lined street that extends the length of the island (an “alameda” if you will). The great big sycamores run from Shoreline to Webster (maybe past), but when this tree died, on a very busy corner. Nothing was done. A neighbor planted a palm in the spot after nothing was done for a year. It has since died as well…..I wonder if the city had a play for dealing with street trees?…

Of course!

The Master Tree Plan!

And it’s being updated! Right now! (actually starting next week). The kick off meeting is next Wednesday at City Hall from 6-8pm in the council chambers.

So if you care about trees on the city streets. Get involved. It’s easy and fun. And you get to say “sycamore” and “ginko” a lot!
