Centrally Located

Today is a day to celebrate life’s little victories. And of course you know I mean the restored bike lanes on Central Avenue in front of the High School. This is amazingly a joy I share with Don Roberts and his loyal crowd of cranks. Of course they like it because it sticks it to the school district, but as we’ve learned lately, details don’t matter, it’s what you feel in your gut that counts!

The bike lanes on Central are back because members of BikeAlameda (including yours truly) and Robb Ratto of PSBA, worked hard to get them restored once the library left its interim location. They reconnect the East and West end lanes between High and Grand Streets and stop the dangerous and ridiculous practice of sending cyclists up onto the sidewalk in one of the more heavily traveled areas in town.

So this morning, feeling as cheery as I do, I would like to say to Mr. Roberts and his good friend Ms. Bail, “You’re Welcome.”

Ride safely.

  1. A modest suggestion for another bike lane:

The crossing from Southbound Fernside over to the bike bridge is badly in need of something. Better signage? Lanes painted in the roadway? Something. It’s pretty dangerous as is.

  2. Ask and ye shall receive:

The city’s proposed reworking of the fernside bike ways, with off-street paths and on-street lanes:

  3. I enjoyed that the bicycle riding stick figures in the renderings were wearing helmets.

  4. Thanks.

Now I ask for an honest admission that redevelopment is an abhorrent waste & abuse of tax dollars.

    When will I receive that?

  5. Oh, and put a decent pedestrian crossing at Buena Vista & Tilden.
