Bike to Work Day is Coming
Next Thursday (5/15) is Bike To Work Day, so this weekend is a perfect time to get your bike tuned up and, if you’re new to bike commuting, thinking a little about how you’re going to get where you’re going.
To this end, there’s a group of riders meeting on Friday mornings at 7:50 (and leaving promptly at 8 am) to ride to downtown Oakland. The pace is easy and new riders are not only welcome but encouraged. We’ve already had some first-timers, and the experience was positive enough that they are returning.
With gas breaking $4 a gallon, if you work in Oakland (in the area near Downton) and live on the Central or East End of Alameda, this is an easy way to have gas prices affect you a lot less without any real negatives. The difference in time between riding and driving is minimal (especially once you start riding regularly).
That’s the big push, hope to see you tomorrow at Peets.

The timing does not work for me to meet the Friday morning group — but what is the recommended cycling route from the east end to downtown Oakland? I’m feeling encouraged to give it a try this Thursday for Bike to Work Day.
