The world needs more lerts

I had a whole different direction to head for the blog today, but time is crunched. My summer routine changed yet again this week, with me taking on “kid-to-camp” duties for most of the week. I’m taking three kids to a soccer camp each morning and we’re riding bikes, which is cool, but I’m realizing that the kids I’m riding with have different levels of awareness as to how to behave in the road. (they’re 10!) [check out the video at the end of the post]

As a parent, one of the harder lessons to pass on to kids is that you’re not always in control of everything and that you need to be aware and alert to potential dangers while biking (or other things). I’ll post on the subject of bike safety another day, but suffice it to say that research indicates that cyclists are twice as likely to collide with cars when riding on the sidewalk (there are many possible reasons for why this is, but mostly it’s because nobody’s looking for fast moving bikes on sidewalks).

Low and behold, this video comes my way this morning and it highlights the concept of being aware and mindful while driving or riding. Check it out….it’s cool, and there’s no trick photography or editing.
