I want to ride my bicycle

One part of the Transportation Master Plan is an update to the Bicycle Master Plan. The original Bicycle Master Plan was adopted by the City Council in 1999. It’s the document that maps out the needs of the communities biking infrasructure and is a key document in going out for funding.

BikeAlameda, Alameda’s bicycling advocacy organization, will be leading a bike ride on Saturday morning to look at some of the locations that will be discussed during the process and to discuss the issues surrounding them. It’s a great way to get some exercise, hang out with fellow Alamedans and get involved in civic activities. Please there will be coffee and pastries! Here’s the announcement:

BikeAlameda will be leading a public bike ride on Sat., Aug.2 to help provide input for the update of the City of Alameda’s Bicycle Master Plan.  The purpose of the ride is to collect input from bicyclists on locations where infrastructure improvements are most needed. City of Alameda staff and public officials will be on hand to hear your bicycling concerns and suggestions for updating the City’s Bicycle Master Plan.

-  Participants will gather on Saturday, Aug 2  at 9:00AM at City Hall to be ready to leave by 9:30am.

-  Coffee and pastries will be provided.

-  Participants will receive instructions and form groups.

-  The route will be approximately 10 miles and encompass Alameda routes to Fruitvale BART, downtown streets, potential bike boulevards, bike trails and Alameda Towne Centre.

-  We anticipate the ride to take approximately 3 - 4 hours with plenty of stops in between.

-  Participants must be 12 and over, and be competent riders.

-  Helmets are required.
