Mi CASA es Su CASA

Welcome to Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda (CASA)!

Now that the city’s Climate Protection task force has done its work (which I’m pretty sure means that Alameda has successfully dealt with all of its climate protection issues) and collected its accolades (Innovation in Green Community Planning – Award of Merit from the American Planning Association – Northern California Chapter), it’s time to do something.

The city of Alameda has recognized that these types of issues require community buy-in and don’t always lend themselves to top-down bureaucratic intervention. And so, is helping the members of the task force create a public/private partnership to help blaze the trail forward. It’s modeled on a partnership already set up in Palo Alto.

The group’s only agenda is to help the city move forward in meeting the Action Plan’s goals. The city, as I understand it, will be involved in helping to provide some resources when necessary, but will not be holding a leadership position in the group’s direction or focus.

The inaugural meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 6:30 at the O-Club (quick idea for the next sustainability meeting, hold it somewhere that people can get to without driving! The O-club’s nice, but only committed cyclists are heading there sans car.)

Check it out Greenies.
