Alameda leading in EBMUD reductions!
With all the rain we have received over the last few days, it would be easy to feel that our drought worries are over. However, at the end of last week, the main watershed for EBMUD was still 16 inches short of what it needs to meet the District’s water needs this year.
But until we know the results of all the recent rain, let’s focus on some “positive” news from the District. Since East Bay MUD instituted its drought program, the city of Alameda has been the number one city in Alameda County (and number two in the combined Alameda County/Contra Costa County district) in terms of reduction of water usage according to an EBMUD Staff Report:
Of course, the staff report doesn’t provide actual usage numbers, or could be that we just use a heckuva lot of water before and so had a lot of water to save. The staying on the positive tip, I’ll just say “we’re number one!”
When broken down by type of user, we are #2 for Single Family Residences in Alameda County.
