Petition in support of Alameda School Board zips past 1,100 signers

A little over three weeks ago, we learned about the efforts of 10 people who have started a recall effort of a majority of the school board. Since that time, their numbers have swelled to “about three dozen.” Lauren Do highlighted what appears to be glaring disingenousness within the movement yesterday.

During these three weeks, the petition to support tolerance and stop the recall has exploded, crossing 11oo confirmed signers and growing. Last night, I sat down to watch Flight of the Chonchords, and when I came back, there were another 30 names on the list! This makes me happy and proud of our community. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had, or overheard, with people saying “I can’t believe this is my community, that this type of thing is happening in Alameda.” Well, it’s happening, but it’s not your community, it’s a small vocal voice. Full stop.

I’ve managed to play with the poll code, and the petition now prints the total number of confirmed signatures. Tell your friends.

  1. Stop the recall and support tolerance in our schools!

  2. I tried to sign the petition, but I never received an email confirmation, and it won’t let me sign again (says my email has been previously used). Is it safe to assume my name is on the list? I’d like to forward to friends but want to be sure that it is, indeed, recording signers…

  3. Thanks for putting this together, JKW. Do you happen to know if there is any org in town creating yard/window signs or in general organizing against this recall bullshit? I’d like to get involved.

  4. Nathan, there is!

The window sign went out last night. You can download it from my site here:
